Where I've Been

I have always loved asking questions - especially the ones I shouldn't.

As a child, snooping on conversations on the other end of the landline phone in my parents home was a daily occurrence. I was always the only person under forty sitting at the adult table, soaking up all of the fierce conversations about politics, current events, and family lore, and I knew my insatiable desire to hear these stories wouldn't be quenched easily.

The memories that stick out most to me from my childhood are the days I spent lost in the pages of a book or being enthralled by the films being shown at the local discount movie theatre. The ability to get lost in a life that isn't your own is the greatest gift a storyteller can give to others.

I learned more from the rotating gaggle of characters that transpierced through my life than in a textbook or seated behind a desk. Having genuine conversations with others as a child provided me with the role models, inspiration, and determination to keep asking questions throughout my life.

As I grew, I found that I could shape my career around playing a part in telling those stories that I have always loved and seek the truth that I have always tried to uncover. Ultimately, these stories have shaped who I am today.

I come from a hardworking family of dreamers that have always taught me to use my voice for change, and that's exactly what I hope to do.
